Florida Oceanographic offers internships in our Animal Care, Education and Research Departments. These 2-4 month-long internships are designed for college-degree or graduate students 18 years and older who are interested in gaining more experience in their related science field (biology, marine sciences, marine biology, environmental science, wetland ecology, natural resource management, restoration and conservation). Each internship allows the student to work closely with the department staff to gain experience and skills to aid them in their schooling and career. We are happy to work with the successful applicant to structure an internship program that will satisfy specific university requirements for credit, if necessary. Do you have a background in biology, marine biology, environmental science, or science education and a passion for sharing scientific knowledge with the public? We are looking for degree-seeking students (or recent graduates) interested in gaining experience or possible college credit through an internship with the Education Department at Florida Oceanographic Society. The Education Intern will work as part of FOS’s Education team to carry out daily educational programming for visitors to the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center. This position involves considerable public speaking and guest interaction in an outdoor setting at a coastal science center and aquarium. The ideal candidate is outgoing, passionate, comfortable working in front of the public, and has weekend and weekday availability. We are happy to work with the successful applicant to structure an internship program that will satisfy specific university requirements for credit, if necessary. This paid internship requires a minimum commitment of at least ten weeks and three 6-hour shifts (18 hrs.) per week, including both weekend shifts. Housing is not provided.
Education Internships are offered in the winter, spring, and summer. We are currently hiring for spring (February – May) and summer (May – August) internship positions. Please specify which time period you are applying for in your letter of interest.

We are looking for degree-seeking students interested in gaining experience or possible college credit through an internship with the Animal Care and Life Support Department at Florida Oceanographic Society. The Animal Care Intern will work as part of FOS’s Animal Care staff to carry daily activities including providing accurate monitoring of water chemistry, diet preparation and feeding, dispersal of medications, and dissemination of information to guests and volunteers. We are happy to work with the successful applicant to structure an internship program that will satisfy specific university requirements for credit, if necessary. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand for at least 3 hours, and be at least 18 years old.
Unfortunately, there are no animal care and life support internship opportunities for 2026.
Do you have a background in biology, marine biology, or marine science and are interested in a career in one of these fields? We are looking for degree-seeking students interested in gaining experience through an internship with the Research Department at Florida Oceanographic Society. This is a paid internship which requires a commitment of 40 hours per week for at least 12 weeks in the summer. The goal of the internship is to gain experience in collaboration, experimental design, data collection, and dissemination of results while working as part of productive research and restoration laboratory. Interns will be given the opportunity to conduct an independent research project under the guidance of department scientists. Interns will also assist with ongoing monitoring (oysters, seagrass, and mangroves) and various research projects, including laboratory and field work. Interns will gain valuable field and laboratory experience as they are fully integrated into the research department. We are happy to work with the successful applicant to structure an internship program that will satisfy specific university requirements for credit, if necessary. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, work outdoors in Florida climate for extended periods of time, and be at least 18 years old.
Unfortunately, there are no research internship opportunities for the 2025-26 school year.
