Meet Scott Bacheler

Scott has always enjoyed being around the water. He has lived near or on the Atlantic coast most of his life. His first experiences were in New Jersey and now in Florida. Being an avid diver, he is very interested in the life in the ocean and the quality of water in it. Living near Florida Oceanographic Society, he was very interested in what volunteer opportunities were available and how he might get involved. His particular interest is water quality issues, guess what? He found the perfect opportunity for himself.

He joined the volunteer team in 2023 as a water quality monitor. He is tasked with collecting water samples and evaluating and reporting these samples on a weekly basis. He has already accumulated over 200+ hours. Scott says, “It feels rewarding to be able to contribute in a small way to help evaluate the health of our local waterways.” It gives him a sense of contributing to the future of our local waterways.

Most of Scott’s career was spent as a Residential Building Contractor, specializing in building homes mostly on the New Jersey and Florida coasts. It is rewarding for him to see people’s dreams of owning a home come to fruition. He has lived in Florida for over 30 years, moving first to Ft. Myers on the West coast where he meet his wife, Linda. Later they moved to Sewall’s Point in the Stuart area where they both have several family members living.

His wife, Linda, is a retired Administrator from Florida Gulf Coast University and a lifelong Floridian, born in Miami. They have 4 children. Their 2 sons and families live in Raliegh, N.C.. One daughter and her family still live in N.J. and their other daughter and her family live nearby in Jupiter. They enjoy spending time with family and especially their 5 grandchildren, ranging in age from 5-25 years old.

Scott’s interests have always been centered around the water. He worked on fishing boats during the summers on the N.J. coast both in High School and College. He has been an avid sailor and once took a trip to Bermuda via boat. Having had at least one boat nonstop since he was 10 years old, currently he and Linda have a 27 ft. center console boat that they spend time fishing, island hopping and taking friends for rides in. Occasionally they charter sailboats in the Caribbean for a weekly vacation.

During his time in New Jersey, he became an EMT (Emergency Medical Tech) and volunteered with the town rescue squad. He felt it would make him feel more confident rendering First Aid to his family members and the people he worked with in the construction business. Scott did this for several years before moving to Florida.
