Mangrove Rescue
About the Event
Join Our Mission to Save Stranded Mangrove Propagules!
Every August, red mangroves release hundreds of floating propagules — long, green baby trees that drift on ocean currents to find their new home. But at Florida Oceanographic’s Coastal Center, many of these young trees fall along our nature trail and become trapped. That’s where you come in.
How to Participate:
-
Grab a white bucket.
-
Collect fallen propagules along the trail (do not pick them from trees).
-
Return your bucket to the collection station and empty the propagules into the black tub.
-
Snap a photo, tag Florida Oceanographic on social media, and show your post at the Stingray Pavilion for a prize!
This activity is FREE with admission and perfect for all ages. It’s a fun, educational way to protect one of Florida’s most important coastal habitats — and become a part of our mangrove restoration mission. Participants will receive a mangrove sticker for participating (while supplies last).
Thank you for supporting Florida Oceanographic Society and helping us grow the next generation of mangroves!
