Clam Restoration (FULL)

About the Event

Similar to oysters, clams filter out harmful algae, nitrogen, phosphorus and other excesses. In collaboration with other organizations we are expanding the restoration of clams into our part of the Indian River Lagoon. We are looking for volunteers to help disperse clams into the Indian River Lagoon. This event involves wading up to mid-thigh into the Indian River Lagoon, carrying buckets of clams and then hand spreading the clams into the water. Closed toe shoes are a must. Volunteers will need to be able to walk the ½ mile up and down our nature trail to participate in this event. Space in this event is limited. Minimum age to participate is 16 years old. Participants ages 16-17 need to have signed Florida Oceanographic waivers if participating without a parent/guardian. Contact Rosemary at rbadger@floridaocean.org to get these waivers emailed.
