Meet Lisa Reed
For more than eight years, Lisa has been a dedicated volunteer with Florida Oceanographic Society, sharing her time (close to 400 hours), enthusiasm, and expertise across several programs. She began her journey as a Sea Turtle Scout apprentice, completing three years of training before becoming a full Sea Turtle Scout. Since then, she has expanded her volunteer service to include the Animal Care Team, where she works with the stingrays, and most recently has become one of the welcoming faces greeting guests in the Visitor Center.
Giving back has always been an important part of Lisa's life. Throughout her career and retirement, she has devoted countless hours to volunteer leadership and community service. She served six years on the National Association of College Stores Board of Directors, volunteered for eight years at the Honda Classic golf tournament, spent four years on her homeowners association board, and has served on the Miles Grant Country Club Board of Directors for the past seven years.
Before retiring, Lisa built an impressive 36-year career in the collegiate bookstore and fan merchandise industry. A graduate of New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University) with a degree in retailing, she spent 19 years as Senior Vice President of Merchandise for Follett Higher Education Group before serving another 17 years as Executive Vice President of the OneCoast Collegiate sales team. She retired during the COVID-19 pandemic to become a full-time "Granny Nanny" to her first grandson—a role she describes as one of the greatest joys of her life.
Lisa and her husband, Scott, have been married for 38 years and are the proud parents of Courtney and Joshua, as well as grandparents to three grandsons: William, Finn, and Aiden. They first discovered Stuart while helping their daughter move to Florida and quickly fell in love with the area, making it their home in 2014. A few years later, Joshua also relocated to the Treasure Coast, allowing the family to enjoy spending more time together.
Outside of volunteering, Lisa enjoys golfing and is a self-proclaimed Disney enthusiast. She has been both a Disney Vacation Club Member and an Annual Passholder since 2006. She and Scott also love to travel, having explored much of Europe through cruises and guided tours. Looking ahead, they hope to purchase an RV and travel across the United States, with a special focus on visiting America's National Parks once Scott retires from his career in technology.
Today, Lisa continues to make a meaningful impact at Florida Oceanographic. Whether she's surveying local beaches as part of the Sea Turtle Team, assisting with the care of the stingrays, or welcoming guests to the Coastal Center, she treasures the opportunity to work alongside the dedicated staff and fellow volunteers. For Lisa, volunteering is about more than giving back—it's about continually learning about Florida's unique coastal ecosystems and helping connect others with the remarkable marine life, including the Society's resident animal ambassadors, that inspire conservation every day.

FAVORITE LOCAL RESTAURANT: To be honest we love to eat at our Clubhouse at Miles Grant because the food is great, we always see friends and neighbors, and best of all it’s a 5-minute walk back home to our 10-month old mini Goldendoodle puppies, Poppy and Daisy.
Recent book you have read and favorite authors? My favorite book that I have read recently is Let Them by Mel Robbins.
Movies, TV, streaming series you would recommend? I love watching British TV shows on PBS, National Geographic specials, and The Disney channel with my grandsons.
