Lake Okeechobee Discharge - Update!
April 11th, 2024 - The recent announcement from the USACE to end harmful Lake Okeechobee discharges marks a crucial milestone in our ongoing battle to protect our waterways and ecosystems.

February 16th, 2024 - Florida Oceanographic Society, recently sent a letter to Governor DeSantis detailing our concerns with these releases. In our letter, we highlighted the critical need for the Governor to voice his objection to these releases, as they will result in the pollution of nitrogen and phosphorus, and the destruction of vital estuarine habitats. Governor DeSantis should urge the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to collaborate with USACE to redirect these releases to the Everglades.
