Ais on the Lagoon Community Paddle

Date: Sun, Sep 24, 2017, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM

Category: Special Events

Unfortunately, due to water quality advisories in the area, we have to change the format of this special event. Out of concern for your health and safety, we will not be paddling during Ais on the Lagoon.

Instead, we ask you to join us at the Coastal Center at 8:30 am for a delicious free breakfast of grits and Florida-fresh clams (and more!) while listening to a historical presentation about the Ais Indians led by Linda Geary. Linda, the Historical Site Manager at the House of Refuge, is an absolute wealth of knowledge when it comes to our area’s original inhabitants. No matter how much you already know about the Treasure Coast’s history, you are sure to learn something new during Linda’s program. Additionally, Florida Oceanographic’s Executive Director Mark Perry will give a short presentation about the water quality issues that are currently affecting our estuary. “Ais on the Lagoon” will go on rain or shine. In the event of heavy rain or lightning, we will hold our breakfast and historical presentation inside the Coastal Center’s classroom.

Park at the south end of the parking lot (furthest from Publix) for this event.
